Eczema

Eczema is a disease
that breaks the surface of your smooth skin
and appear in ugly patches
all over your body, forcing you to
cover them up to
hide yourself
from a society that is quick to judge.
Even though that ugly,red patch
is not your fault at all
nor your parents' fault too
because it's hereditary
and even though you couldn't help it,
you worry everyday that
your classmates will find out
and that will give them a reason to point and stare,
as though they are watching the rare creature that the school had acquired
to keep them amused.
And in a way eczema makes you so "special" that
your school mates can remember you for so many years,
as the classmate that is "strangely discolored".
The classmate that
looks like a two-toned eye shadow.
The classmate that
looks like a torn up doll with patches all over her.
The classmate that smells like sewage because they think that
the ugly patches are what's causing the smell.
But you can't help it.
So you were left alone in the night
scratching,
scratching,
and scratching
even though it's already staining your fingers with
the blood that your heart desperately
wants to pour out from your tired soul.
You went on scratching,
hoping that if you scratched it hard enough,
that ugly, red patch would actually disappear
under your bloodstained fingernails and that from that day on ,
it'll only appear in your nightmares.
But that never happened.
And as you grow up,
You begin to realize that
you are growing patches all over your heart.
Each patch etched on by another
person that
you willingly gave your heart to
and.you.can't.escape.
Almost like someone bound you onto
a gigantic rock and
threw you into the sea,
never meant to rise to the surface again.
You begin to realize that your heart
itches so much just to
hear their voice,
see their face,
feel their warmth,
smell their perfume or cologne,
but that's all it'll ever be.
An itch from an ugly patch
forever carved into your heart
that will never be satisfied
no matter how hard your scratched it.
It is the
"Eczema of the heart".
