Faces
We all have different faces, different personalities. Children with their friendly, naïve and an always smiling faces, teenagers with their trendy hair, rebellious eyes and their always doubtful looks, adults with their growing wrinkles, stressed-out eyes and their almost constant frowns and lastly, old people with their prune-like faces, white thinning hair and knowledgeable smiles. We all have faces, we all do.
However, there are also masked faces too. Kidnappers, robbers all make the list, they mask out who they actually are to complete crimes to suit their needs. Sometimes, even friends are masked too. They cover their hearts from your probing eyes and build walls around themselves, making sure no one else gets in to peek at their fragile hearts. They learnt to evade questions about themselves and never tell anyone who actually they are. Gradually, they accustom to someone they are not, their unreal self, and lose their own personalities, their own traits. They stop being themselves.
I think it is really sad though, when someone loses his or her unique personality just because they want to ‘fit’ in and just because they do not want to be left out. It is really pitiable. You lose your own special traits in favor of people that forget about you as easily as someone kills an ant, really easy. So why do you want to lose to a group of judgmental people your unique personality, your special self just because you are uncomfortable with not fitting in? You can find other ways and other chances to meet others who would believe in who you actually are and like you because you are you, not because you bought the latest CDs, watch the latest shows or heard the latest gossips.
I guess it is really sad sometimes, when you cannot be who you are before, who you truly are. Or maybe that is how stereotypes come about? I believe that every one is special, is unique, until they lose the core of what they truly believe in and loses what they are on the inside. Then that person would not be special anymore, because you lose the ability to make your own judgment, to make your own choices, and all in all become who you want to be. You are no longer what your name suggests, you are just a shell of what you actually are, and that is useless.
Someone once told me, “No one likes to hang around people who lie to others about themselves, because who you come to know is not the true person you wanted to be friends with or you wanted to date or anything else the matter. That person is almost the same as the Barbie doll found in the back of the toy box in your primary school days, plastic, unreal and very fake. No right-minded adults would want a “Barbie doll” to be friends with, right?” I agree with that.
We all need true faces, we really do.
